New to exhibiting? Here are some basics:

What to expect at your first show-

  • Friendly faces
  • Vases supplied
  • Support with staging (putting blooms in vases)
  • Support navigating the show schedule
  • Arrive early during the staging time

What to bring-

  • Blooms
  • Newspaper (some may be supplied, no promises)
  • Pen
  • Doweling or something similar (around 30cm +)
  • A good sportsmanship attitude

How to learn-

  • Join the club. Each month, you will learn how to grow your blooms to their best advantage on the show bench, for cut flowers or just for fun.
  • Study the show schedule for the rules and expectations.
  • Understand the classifications:
    • Buy the Dahlia Classification Handbook (2024). Some cultivars are not exhibition varieties, and some have sizing requirements. Email the secretary to get your copy for $8 + postage, or pick up a copy at one of our meetings.
    • See the Chrysanthemum Classification List (2023).
